Cardinals Complete Last Day of Racing at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational
March 19, 2023 | Rowing
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Louisville rowing completed two days of competition at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational at Melton Hill Lake.
Â
"We faced Tenn and Duke this morning. They were 2 of the fastest 3 or 4 teams throughout the weekend so we knew they would be fast," said UofL head coach Derek Copeland. "We knew that we needed to use this race to work out some of the rough spots we stirred up Saturday afternoon. We definitely learned a lot though the three sessions and I feel like we ended on a strong note."
Â
Â
The Cardinals raced No. 16 Duke, No. 22 Tennessee and Wisconsin in the Sunday session. UofL had 2V8, and V8 boats, and a 2V4 and V4 in the water today.
Â
The V8 finished third, just five seconds out of the runnerup position and the 2V8 boat finished fourth, just two seconds out of third. Â Â
Â
Â
"We were happy to race a few fours today too," said Copeland. "We know we aren't as fast as we need to be yet. But we do feel that our results were authentic, accurate, and definitely something we will build on."
Â
Both the V4 and 2V4 boat finished third in their races.
