February 11, 2023 | Track & Field
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville track and field teams completed competition Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge, led by Jorge Contreras Nazario's first-place finish in the men's open shot put.
On the final throw of the competition, Contreras Nazario leapt into first place with a personal-best heave of 18.41m (60-4.75). The mark gives the redshirt junior the second-best shot put performance in Louisville history, sitting just behind Steve Wade's record of 18.42m (60-5.25) that was set in 2016.
Bryan Hudson joined Contreras Nazario on the podium in the men's open shot put, posting a distance of 17.55m (57-7) for his highest individual finish of the season.
Other notable performances included big personal bests for freshman Olivia Jenkins, who ran 7.64 in the preliminary round of the women's 60m before notching a time of 7.60 in the semifinals, as well as Noah Carmichael and Jesse Casas who both clocked 48.83 in the men's 400m for a pair of lifetime bests.
The Cardinals will head to back to South Bend, Ind. for Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 18 before gearing up for postseason competition.
