December 05, 2023 | Track & Field
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three University of Louisville track & field athletes were honored by the ACC for their performances in the Cardinals' season debut last weekend at the KTCCCA College Opener, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Trey Allen was named the ACC Men's Field Performer of the Week for the second time in his career, while Sophia Day and Cade DeWitt were recognized as the inaugural ACC Female and Male Freshman of the week, respectively.
Allen won the men's high jump at the KTCCCA College Opener, recording a final height of 2.24m (7-4.25) that stands as the best mark in the nation thus far this season. The redshirt senior boasted a clean sheet through his first three jumps before clearing the 2.24m bar on his third and final attempt.
Day also picked up an event victory, winning the women's triple jump in her collegiate debut after bounding to a mark of 11.82m (38-9.5) that ranks as the best in the ACC in the early going of the new campaign.
DeWitt made his collegiate debut as well, setting a new freshman record of 5.23m (17-1.75) on his way to a runner-up finish in the men's pole vault. The clearance ties the freshman for the fourth-best mark nationally while also standing as the second-best mark in Louisville school history.
Allen, Day, DeWitt and the rest of the Cardinals will return to competition after the new year when the Rod McCravy Invitational takes place from Jan. 12-13 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
