LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team will have five captains leading it through the upcoming 2024 season.
Logan Beard, JT Benson, Dylan Hoy, Isaac Humphrey and Evan Webster will serve as the captains for the 2024 Cardinals. Beard and Humphrey were named captains for the second straight season.
Beard is in his fourth season with the Louisville program and is a two-year starter. The senior has played in 118 career games with a .297 average, 11 home runs and 88 RBIs. The North Oldham High School product was a Freshman All-American in 2022.
Like Beard, Benson is set to begin year four with the Cardinals. After an injury-riddled 2022, Benson fought the injury bug again in 2023 but played in 49 games, hitting .288 with six home runs, 34 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.
Humphrey is another two-year starter returning for his fourth season with the Cardinals. The Livermore, Ky., native holds a .295 career average in 112 games with 20 doubles, eight homers and 62 driven in. Humphrey also has a career .437 on-base percentage and 17 stolen bases.
Hoy is one of four four-year transfers the Cardinals added during the offseason and has made an immediate impact. The senior infielder played four seasons at Marist, posting a .277 average in 128 games while racking up 25 doubles, 65 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.
Webster returns for his fifth season in a Louisville uniform in 2024. The left-handed pitcher has been one of the anchors of Louisville's bullpen during his career, making 68 career appearances on the mound. Webster is 9-5 with a 4.06 ERA, striking out 101 batters in 108.2 innings pitched.
The five captains will lead the Cardinals into the 2024 season, which begins Feb. 16-18 with three games in Tampa, Fla.
