Three Cardinals Earn All-ACC Honors
November 08, 2023 | Men's Soccer
Damien Barker John, Sander Roed and Josh Jones garnered All-ACC recognition.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three University of Louisville men's soccer student-athletes were recognized on Wednesday as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its All-ACC teams.
Damien Barker John and Sander Roed were each second team selections, while Josh Jones earned third team honors. The Cardinals have now had multiple All-Conference selections in nine of the 10 years since joining the league.
Barker John got off to a slow start this fall, tallying just one point through the first six matches. However, the sophomore slotted home a penalty kick in the closing seconds at Evansville and the floodgates opened. Barker John scored eight goals in an eight-match stretch, including multi-goal performances against NC State, Kansas City and Oakland. For the season, he leads the Cardinals with nine goals and 21 points, totals that rank sixth and fifth in the ACC, respectively.
Roed is an All-ACC selection for the third time in as many years after earning third team honors as a freshman and first team honors last year. The junior has five goals and is fourth in the league with seven assists. Roed is coming off a career performance at No. 2 Notre Dame in the ACC quarterfinals, becoming just the second player in ACC Championship history to record a hat trick and setting the ACC Championship single game points record with seven in the 4-3 victory.
Jones has been the anchor in the Louisville backline once again in his junior season. After missing the first three matches due to injury, the junior settled in and has played every match of the last 13 contests. Jones has also made his impact on the attacking end, scoring a goal against NC State and assisting on the game-winner versus Boston College. His biggest contribution came in Sunday's quarterfinal at Notre Dame though, as the center back headed home the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to send the Cardinals into the semifinals.
The Cardinals return to the pitch Wednesday night at No. 14 Clemson in the semifinal round of the ACC Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
