
Louisville Baseball Defeats Leones del Escogido of LIDOM

The Cardinals picked up a 9-2 victory over Leones del Escogido in split-squad action on Sunday.
JUAN DOLIO, Dominican Republic – The University of Louisville baseball team played a pair of games in split-squad action on Sunday in the Dominican Republic.
A portion of Louisville's team traveled to Boca Chica to the New York Yankees Academy to square off against 16-time LIDOM champion Leones del Escogido. The other half of the Cardinals' roster took on the Dominican Republic Air Force baseball team on the Air Force base in San Isidro.
Louisville was impressive in Boca Chica, defeating Escogido 9-2 on Sunday.
Sebastian Gongora allowed two runs with four strikeouts over three innings in the start. Patrick Forbes, Evan Webster, Tucker Biven and Kaleb Corbett combined for six shutout innings to finish off the game.
Isaac Humphrey had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Eddie King Jr. was 2-for-3 with a double and three driven in, two runs scored, and he swiped a bag. Ryan McCoy also had two hits, including a double with two runs scored. Alex Alicea added a multi-hit game of his own.
In San Isidro, the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead after six before giving up a six spot in the seventh and one more in the eighth in a 7-5 loss.
Justin West was dominant in a starting effort, striking out six over three innings. Jared Lessman tossed two scoreless with four punchouts. Braxton Stewart and Ty Starke also turned in scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
Trevor Amburgey hit a solo home run to highlight the offense. Luke Napleton reached three times with a pair of walks and a run-scoring single.
Louisville will wrap up its four-game schedule on Monday with a matchup Tigres del Licey of LIDOM. Tigres del Licey owns a LIDOM record 23 championships and won its record 11th Caribbean Series title back in February.
CARDINALS PROVIDE FOOD FOR LOCAL VILLAGE
Following Sunday's contests, the Cardinals split up and traveled to two nearby villages to visit with the local people. The players and staff spent time with the children and provided food. The orphanage visit was a continuation of the community service portion of the trip in partnership with Score International.
