Miller’s 200m Dash Record Closes Out PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational
January 28, 2023 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cameron Miller continued the trend of record-setting performances for the University of Louisville track and field teams, blazing to a new school record in the men's 200m dash as the Cardinals wrapped up competition at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
Miller's time of 20.52 smashes the record of 20.77 that he set in the same event two weeks ago at the Cardinal Classic. The mark also stands second nationally entering this weekend's events.
On the weekend, Louisville boasted five event winners and saw athletes set 24 new personal-best marks.
"That was an outstanding weekend for our program," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We saw many national-level performances achieved and both squads continue to come together as a team. I'm excited about our momentum and understand that we were privileged to host one of the premier competitions across the NCAA this weekend."
Nolan Macklin joined Miller on the podium in the 200m, continuing the strong start to his freshman campaign with a third-place finish in a personal-best time of 21.32 in the event, after also placing third in the 60m dash last night.
The Cardinals got strong performances in the field events once again, with Alba Cuns Iglesias leaping to a third-place finish in the women's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 12.72m (41-8.75) and Soledad Jean clearing a bar of 1.75m (5-8.75) to claim third in the women's high jump.
On the men's side, Grigoris Nikolaou and Brion Stephens also earned bronze medals, as Nikolaou jumped 14.93m (48-11.75) to place third in the men's triple jump and Stephens cleared 2.15m (7-0.5) to earn third in the men's high jump.
Paul Kallenberg started off the second day of the men's heptathlon with a personal-best mark of 8.67 in the 60m hurdles. He then garnered another personal record in the pole vault, winning the event with a final clearance of 4.90m (16-0.75), before finishing the 1000m in 2:52.77. The native of Mainz, Germany finished third overall in the heptathlon with a final tally of 4,879 points.
The Cards nearly saw another indoor school record fall in the men's 3000m, as Ian Kibiwot finished just two seconds off the record in 8:02.40 to take fourth place. In the men's mile, Jason Krell fought through a crowded field to secure a new personal-best of 4:10.40 in the event along with a fifth-place finish.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Noah Carmichael, Ryan Farrell, Robert Joseph, and Isiah Pantiere concluded the meet by earning a time of 3:13.59 for a fourth-place finish.
"We couldn't do this without all of the support from an amazing officials group and timing company," added Cowper.
Next up, the Cardinals will compete on the road for the first time this season, traveling to South Bend, Ind. for Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Feb. 3-4.
