Cardinals Keep Rewriting Record Books on Day One of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational
January 27, 2023 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two more school records fell as the University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the first day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Sterling Warner-Savage tied his own school record in the indoor 60m dash, blazing to a time of 6.55, matching his effort at the Tiger Paw Invitational in February 2022. Freshman Nolan Macklin also made his mark on the record books, taking third in the event with his time of 6.68 making him the second-fastest 60m dash athlete in Louisville history.
Synclair Savage reset the women's long jump school record for the second consecutive week, leaping 6.52m (21-4.75) to take home first place and lead the Cardinals on the first day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The junior from Kennesaw, Ga. bested the previous school record of 6.44m (21-1.5) which she set two weeks ago at the Cardinal Classic.
Savage also earned a new personal best on the track, cruising to a time of 7.41 for a runner-up finish in the 60m dash to teammate Taylor Herbert, who won the event in 7.39.
In the men's heptathlon, Paul Kallenberg opened the meet with a personal-best time of 7.08 to take third in the event before also taking third in the long jump with a jump of 7.15m (23-5.5). The sophomore continued to rack up points with a heave of 13.82m (45-4.25) in the shot put and another personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.95m (6-4.75), putting him in third place after the first day of competition with 3,179 points.
The Cardinals continued their success in the pole vault, with Aliyah Welter leading the way to take third place in the women's seeded pole vault with a clearance of 4.28m (14-0.5). In the women's open pole vault, Carly Pujol cleared 4.03m (13-2.5) to tie for second place, while Lily Fleetwood finished in fifth place with the same mark on more attempts.
Ethan Alyea rounded out the day's top-five finishers for Louisville, claiming fifth place in the weight throw with a launch of 19.09m (62-7.75).
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow for the second and final day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The women's shot put and men's open pole vault, along with the conclusion of the heptathlon, will kick off the day at 11 p.m.
