LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team swept UIC 7-0 in its season opener Wednesday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (1-0) swept singles and doubles, winning every set against the Flames (0-3).

Louisville will now take on Bellarmine this afternoon in the second half of the doubleheader at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd-Tennis Center.

In doubles, Matthew Fung and Alex Wesbrooks picked up the first win of the day for the Cardinals, defeating Aleksa Bucan and Miroslav Cvjetan 6-1 at No. 2. Shortly after, the duo of Etienne Donnet and Sergio Hernandez took a 6-2 victory over Gustavo Schwebel and Jai Vallurupalli at the three-spot to give the Cards a 1-0 advantage in the match.

In singles, Salle, No. 36 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, defeated Vallurupalli by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, leading through the entirety of each set.

At the No. 2 spot for the Cards, Donnet, No. 42 in the ITA singles rankings outlasted Pelle Strandberg 6-4 in the first set. He was then able to win the final five games of the second set for a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Hernandez was slotted at the No. 3 spot for Louisville, securing a pair of 6-1 wins over Miroslav Cvjetan.

David Mizrahi had a dominating performance to start the season, defeating Artem Iermolov 6-2 in the first set before sweeping the second set 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.

Rounding out the match for the Cardinals at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots were a pair of freshmen, Andre' Steinbach and Will Mayew, both picked up their first collegiate dual match victories as neither one dropped a set.
