Louisville completes season-opening doubleheader with a 6-1 win against Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Bellarmine 6-1 Wednesday evening at the Bass-Rudd Center. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-0 after defeating UIC 7-0 in the first match of the season-opening doubleheader.

The Cards grabbed the doubles point to start the match as the duo of Fabien Salle and Matthew Fung teamed to beat Xavier Ecarma and Kyle Tang on court No. 1. David Mizrahi and Will Mayew secured the point with a 6-2 win over Paul Reynolds and Matthew Nice at the two-spot.

Salle, No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, earned the first singles victory for the Cardinals when he bested Paul Reynolds 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Sergio Hernandez increased Louisville's lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Vineet Ramesh at the five-spot.

Etienne Donnet, No. 42 in the ITA singles rankings clinched the win, picking up a 6-2 6-0 victory over Paul Reynolds at No. 2

Bellarmine (0-2) got on the scoreboard at the four-spot where Matthew Nice defeated No. 61 Matthew Fung 6-3, 7-5.

Andre' Steinbach wrapped up the match on court six. The freshman Cardinal picked up a 6-4 win in the first set, but Bellarmine's Eli Wood took the second by a score of 7-5. Steinbach prevailed 10-7 in the third set, bringing the final score to 6-1.

The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday when they play host to No. 24 Northwestern at 12 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. matchup with Eastern Kentucky.
