Elliott Garners ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Honors
September 13, 2022 | Field Hockey
The University of Louisville's Sasha Elliott was recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13.
Â
Elliott (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) was instrumental in a pair of wins on the weekend as Cardinals improved to 6-0 on the season. The graduate senior goalkeeper posted a 0.50 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage, surrendering only one goal in two games.
In Louisville's home opener against JMU, Elliott collected three saves en route to her first shutout of the season. She followed that performance with six saves in the 2-1 win over No. 4 Michigan. In Sunday's win, Elliott held the Wolverines at bay when she stopped a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter and later keyed a defensive stand with a crucial save as the Wolverines drew three penalty corners in the final minute of the game.
Â
Elliott (6-0) now carries a 0.83 goals against average and leads the conference with an .868 save percentage on the season.
Â
The fourth-ranked Cards will return to action on Friday when they open Atlantic Coast Conference play against No. 2 North Carolina at 3 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Louisville also play host to Fairfield Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will air on ACC Network Extra.Â
