Satterfield Previews Saturday's Opener at Syracuse
August 30, 2022 | Football
University of Louisville head football coach Scott Satterfield addressed the media this afternoon as he prepares his team for their season opener this Saturday. The Cardinals are traveling to Syracuse on Sept. 3 for an 8 p.m. kickoff, which can be viewed on the ACC Network.
Â
"We know the ACC is a big-time challenge, week in and week out," said Satterfield. "We have arguably one of the toughest schedules in the history of Louisville football when you think about all the teams that are ranked, when you talk about starting out on the road in the first two weeks with a short week, and you think about Central Florida and then coming right back here playing Florida State."
Â
The Cardinals' schedule consists of five currently ranked teams (No. 17 Pittsburgh, No. 22 Wake Forest, No. 4 Clemson, No. 13 NC State, and No. 20 Kentucky), three of which are games away from Cardinal Stadium.
Â
"We've played Syracuse three times here in a row at home, and at the end of the season, so now it's completely different, it's the first game, it's in their place. I know it's going to be loud,
and just a nasty environment. It's going to be a big challenge, we're looking forward to it, and we're excited about it."
Â
Satterfield is 3-0 lifetime against the Orange since beginning his career at Louisville. In those three games, all at Cardinal Stadium, the Cardinals have averaged 42.3 points per game against the Orange and 467.7 yards of total offense. Louisville totaled 608 yards in the 56-34 win in 2019, including 370 yards on the ground.
Â
The Cardinals hope to put up similar numbers in this weekend's game, especially with the presence of more experienced players on the roster. Heading into the 2022 season, the Cardinals have 21 seniors dotting the roster.
Â
"Fortunately, we've come out of camp healthy," said Satterfield. "We feel like all of our guys are going to be ready to go, and that's a positive for sure. Particularly with this team, I think a couple things that stand out is the fact that we have a lot of experience. We have a lot of seniors, a lot of guys that have played a lot of ball, and I think that's going to help us."
Â
Known for his explosive offenses, Satterfield is also excited for the newer additions to the team as well as his depth at the wide receiver position.
Â
"We're going to be very solid out there at the wide receiver position," Satterfield said. "I'm really excited about our offensive line. The main nucleus of that is back this year, and they're very physical. They're coming off the ball. They're going to give opportunities for all our play makers in the running back, quarterback, and out wide."
Â
With a healthy and experienced team, the Cardinals are looking to open the season on a positive note and get a leg up in the ACC race.
