Cardinals Roll to 3-0 Win Over Bellarmine
August 29, 2022 | Men's Soccer
Louisville is off to a 2-0-0 start for the first time since 2018.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team tallied its second straight victory to start the 2022 season as the Cardinals downed Bellarmine 3-0 on Monday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Louisville (2-0-0) has won its first two matches of the season for the first time since 2018. The six goals scored are the most for the Cards through two the first two contests since the 2002 season.
The Cardinals surrendered the opening goal in Thursday's season opener before reeling off three straight tallies in a win over No. 10 Saint Louis. That was not the case on Monday though, as Louisville got on the board in the 11th minute.
Macoumba Ba took care of the first goal of the night on his own, dribbling in from just across midfield and beating his defender before sneaking his shot through the legs of the goalkeeper. Ba netted the Cards' first goal for the second consecutive match.
Louisville doubled its advantage in the 29th minute, cashing in a corner kick opportunity for the second straight contest. Brandon McManus got on the end of a Sander Roed corner kick and slotted it home for his first of the year.
The Cardinals took the 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and the scoreline held into the closing minutes.
It was a corner kick once again in the 87th minute that capped the scoring for Louisville. Ayden Nocus bent a ball in front of goal and Marcus Jorgensen recorded the first goal of his collegiate career, heading the ball into the back of the net for the final 3-0 margin.
Louisville outshot Bellarmine 21-3 on the night and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Gavin Krenecki played all 90 minutes in goal, picking up a pair of saves and recording the first shutout of his career.
Louisville is at home again on Friday night to take on Seattle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
