Contreras Wraps Up Competition at the NACAC Championships

The University of Louisville's Jorge Contreras placed ninth in the shot put at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships Friday evening at the Freeport Stadium in Freeport, Grand Bahamas.

The native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, recorded throws of 17.17m (56-4) on his first and fourth attempts in the event Friday evening. Earlier this summer, Contreras won the Puerto Rican national title in shot put at the FAPUR National Championship with a throw of 17.98m (59-0).

During the 2021-22 collegiate season, he placed 21st in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 18.28m (59-11.75) and also competed in the discus throw at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round. Contreras also earned second team all-conference honors in 2021 in both shot put and discus throw at the ACC Championships.

He will be entering his third season throwing for the Cardinals in the 2022-23 campaign.
