
Cardinals Showing Out at FINA World Championships

BUDAPEST -- The University of Louisville swimming and diving team was off the blocks as the first week of competition continues at the 2022 FINA World Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

In the 100 freestyle, Cardinal graduate Andrej Barna qualified third for his native Serbia in the 50M freestyle with a time of 48.15 and then finished tenth in the semi-finals cutting his time to 47.97, missing the final by .01.

In the 200 breaststroke, Cardinal Denis Petrashov, swimming for Kyrgyzstan put up a 2:11.88 in the prelims to advance to the semi-finals. In the semis, he knocked off .88 his prelim time to swim 2:11.00 and finsh15th overall. Â

In the 50M Freestyle, Andrej Barna turned in a 22.30 to finish 22nd in the world with Abdelrahman El-Araby touching in 22.95 in the prelims.

Brazilian Cardinal Murilo Sartori helped lead the 4x200 Freestyle relay squad to a second place in prelims with a split of 1:47.11 as Brazil posted a 7:06.98. In the finals, Brazil was fourth with a time of 7:04.69 with Sartori splitting 1:46.54 on the third leg, the second fastest split in the field.
