NEW ORLEANS – The University of Louisville's Gabriela Leon has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association  2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Southeast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year as announced by the organization today.
Each of the nine regions – Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2022 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Leon made program history when she cleared 4.60m (15' 1") to win the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Women's Pole Vault title, becoming UofL's first women's outdoor national champion.
