Martin Advances on Final Day of NCAA East Region Preliminary Round
May 28, 2022 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Katie Martin secured her spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as the University of Louisville track and field team closed out competition at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor East Preliminary Round Saturday at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
Â
"I am proud of the way our athletes came out and competed this week in Bloomington," said head coach Dale Cowper. "They did an outstanding job of handling various weather conditions and we are excited to have eight students advancing to the next round of the NCAA Championships in Eugene."
Â
Martin clocked a time of 57.93 seconds in the women's 400-meter hurdles quarterfinals to clinch her place as a time qualifier. The time is the second fastest the current school record holder has posted in her collegiate career.
Â
The Cardinals secured eight qualifiers for the next round, the most since a program-record 12 in 2009.
Â
Louisville will travel to Eugene, Ore. to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Hayward Field from June 8-11.
