
Cardinals Set for NCAA East Region Preliminary Round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field team returns to Bloomington, Ind. this week for the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Complex from May 25-28.
The Cardinals qualified a program-record 30 student-athletes for 31 entries as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee on Thursday. The field features the top-48 marks in each respective event, following injury or withdrawal, with the only exceptions being the top-24 times for relays and direct qualification for the top-24 in decathlon and heptathlon multi-events. Following the preliminaries, the top-12 event finishers and direct qualifications from each region will advance to the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.

Competition opens Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. ET with the men's hammer throw and closes out Saturday with the women's 4x400-meter relay at 8:45 p.m. ET.
Louisville currently has nine athletes that rank in the East Region's top-12 in their respective events. Gabriela Leon and Aliyah Welter rank second and eighth in the women's pole vault, while Synclair Savage stands fourth in the women's long jump. In the women's high jump, Emily Scott rounds out the top-12 performers. Trey Allen and Luke Nichols sit sixth and ninth in the men's high jump, while Jeremiah Willis ranks 12th in the men's long jump. Sterling Warner-Savage's top-time in the men's 100-meter is ninth and Katie Martin's school record women's 400-meter time comes in at 12th in the region.
