Cardinals Set Four School Records at Indiana Invitational
April 23, 2022 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four Cardinals etched their names in the program's outdoor school records as the University of Louisville track and field team closed out competition with four event wins at the Indiana Invitational Saturday.
Â
Synclair Savage set the women's long jump outdoor school record on a second attempt of 6.44m (21-1.5) that placed runner-up. The mark surpasses the previous program best of 6.39m (20-11.75) by Alexis Gibbons at the Victor Lopez Classic in 2019. The clearance by the sophomore ranks first in the ACC and tenth nationally.
Â
Gabriela Leon reestablished the women's outdoor pole vault school record with a first-place height of 4.57m (15-0). Leon previously set the record mark with a bar of 4.55m (14-11) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Mar. 26. The redshirt senior's mark ranks first in the ACC and second nationally.
Â
In the men's pole vault, Zach Frye and Sean Roth tied the outdoor school record after each cleared a bar of 5.12m (16-9.5). The height stands as a personal-best for Frye, while Roth has now achieved the mark twice after previously setting the program best outdoor bar at the Louisville Invitational in 2021.
Â
On Friday, Ian Kibiwot improved his 5000-meter personal-best by over half a minute with a runner-up time of 13:53.34. Ben Ewert clocked a personal-best 3000-meter steeplechase of 9:11.28 to finish fifth. Isaac Kiprop and Cooper Marchal closed out the first day of action with a pair top-10 finishes in their men's 10000-meter debuts. Kiprop posted a time of 30:30.52 to place second, while Marchal rounded out the top-10 in 31:27.68.
Â
Emily Scott and Soledad Jean rounded out the top-three in the women's high jump. Scott posted a height of 1.77m (5-9.75) to finish second and Jean cleared 1.74m (5-8.5) for third. Luke Nichols secured his first men's high jump win of the outdoor season with a height of 2.12m (6-11.5), while Trey Allen finished second in the event at the same height based on attempts.
Â
Adar Sheere recorded a first throw of 57.42m (188-4) to win the men's discus throw for the third straight meet. In the men's long jump, Jeremiah Willis jumped a wind-aided mark (2.4w) of 7.63m (25-0.5) to earn his third event win in four outdoor meets this season.

Louisville closes out the regular season as hosts of the Clark Wood Invitational from April 29-30.
