Ian Kibiwot's School Record Headlines Final Day of Louisville Invitational
April 16, 2022 | Track & Field
Â
Kibiwot recorded a final lap of 1:00.15 to finish second and surpass the previous record of 8:13.01 set by Wesley Korir at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in 2007.
Â
"Our team was able to take advantage of the excellent weather today. Each event area is improving and we saw many impressive performances this weekend," said head coach Dale Cowper. "The confidence of our team is continuing to increase and we expect to keep progressing toward the championship season in May. As always, we were fortunate to have a great officiating crew at Cardinal Park this weekend."
Trey Allen and Luke Nichols opened the final day of action by clinching the top two spots of the men's high jump. Allen cleared a personal-best height of 2.21m (7-3) to place first, while Nichols recorded a bar of 2.18m (7-1.75) for second. Allen's 2.21m (7-3) exceeds his 2.18m (7-1.75) height at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays for the top men's mark in the ACC and tied for fifth nationally.
Â
Emily Scott posted a personal-best 1.81m (5-11.25) to win the women's high jump. Scott surpassed her previous best of 1.76m (5-9.25) on two separate heights, clearing 1.78m (5-10) before recording the first-place finish. The height of 1.81m (5-11.25) ranks as the top women's mark in the ACC.
"I am thrilled with how I was able to compete today and am so excited to continue to improve," said Scott. "More importantly, I am far more grateful for my incredible coaches who have worked so hard to help get me to this point as well as my teammates, who showed so much support today!"
Â
Sterling Warner-Savage finished first in the men's 100-meter with a time of 10.40 seconds, while Taylor Herbert took the women's 100-meter in 11.52. In the 200-meter, Je'Nyia Burton turned in the second fastest time in outdoor program history at 54.20 to finish runner-up the women's side and Isiah Pantiere clocked an impressive wind-aided time of 20.84 seconds to finish second for the men.
"It was great start for my second time running the outdoor 200-meter," said Pantiere. "This performance in early April shows that I have the ability to post faster times in the future and that I have a very great outlook and the ability to compete with the best in the country as championship season approaches."
Adar Sheere and Jorge Contreras swept the top two spots in the men's discus throw. Sheere recorded a mark of 56.52m (185-5) to win the event, while Contreras set a personal-best mark of 53.69m (176-1) to finish second.
Â
Synclair Savage and Ariel Lawrence placed first and second in the women's long jump. Savage recorded a top mark of 5.94m (19-6), while Lawrence jumped 5.87m (19-3.25) for second. Morgan Bentley posted a personal-best distance of 12.63m (41-5.25) on her fourth attempt to win the women's triple jump, while Rachel Darden finished second in the event with an outdoor personal-best 12.47m (40-11).
Â
Cade Richeson recorded a personal-best heave of 18.49m (60-8) to win the men's shot put. The throw is the second best performer mark in outdoor program history.
Â
Louisville claimed three of the top-five spots in the women's pole vault. Gabriela Leon cleared a facility record and first-place height of 4.41m (14-5.5), while Aliyah Welter recorded an outdoor personal-best of 4.31m (14-1.75) to finish second. Auriane Viola posted a bar of 4.11m (13-5.75) for fourth.
Â
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Synclair Savage, Taylor Herbert, Burton and Kiyah Yeast clocked a time of 45.29 seconds to take the event. The finish is the fourth-best time in outdoor program history.
Â
A total of 41 student-athletes recorded outdoor personal best marks over the two-day meet.
Â
Louisville will be back in action next weekend at the Indiana Invitational April 22-23 in Bloomington, Ind.
