Cardinals Wrap Up Day One of the Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field team opened their first home meet of the outdoor season with strong field performances at the Louisville Invitational Friday.

The Cardinals kicked off day one of competition with two top-five finishes in the men's weight throw. Erik Fertig posted a throw of 58.91m (193-3) to finish second, while Jason Wright recorded a mark of 54.45m (178-7) for fifth. Ethan Alyea surpassed his previous personal best of 51.38m (168-7) on five of his six attempts, placing sixth with a mark of 54.16m (177-8).

Tiana Bazie and Katherine Coffey rounded out the top-three in the women's weight throw. Bazie recorded a final attempt of 54.19m (177-9) to finish second, while Coffey followed in third at 52.59m (172-6). Zoë Yeast earned a personal-best mark of 49.15m (161-3) on her fifth attempt to finish fifth.

Raeli Howerton recorded a throw of 35.40m (116-1) to place third in the women's javelin, while Derryan Johnson recorded a personal best mark of 25.10m (83.44).

Competition resumes Saturday with the four field events at noon, while track events are set to start with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at 1:10 p.m. ET. The meet closes out with the women's 4x400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m. ET.
