LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field athletes Gabriela Leon, Luke Nichols, Sean Roth, Synclair Savage and Aliyah Welter were named to the All-ACC Indoor Track and Field Academic Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Â
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
Gabriela Leon cleared the third highest bar of her indoor career at 4.41m (14-5-5) for a sixth-place finish and first-team honors in the women's pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The seven-time All-ACC honoree set the women's indoor school record twice this season with a runner-up and first-team honors height of 4.46m (14-7.5) at the ACC Indoor Championships and a mark of 4.42m (14-6) at the Hokie Invitational. The ACC Post Graduate Scholarship Recipient and Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar finished her indoor career with a top-five pole vault finish in 29 of her 31 indoor meets and 12 indoor pole vault event wins.
Â
Luke Nichols cleared a personal-best height of 2.17m (7-1.5) to finish second and earn-first team honors in the men's high jump at the ACC Indoor Championships. The height ranked third in the ACC and tied for 22nd in the nation. The three-time ACC Honor Rolll recipient earned a top-two finish in four of five indoor meets this season, with an event win at the Hokie Invitational.
Â
Battling back from injury all season, Sean Roth cleared a season-best height of 5.16m (16-11) to finish sixth and earn second-team honors in the men's pole vault at the ACC Indoor Championships. The bar is the second highest of his career. The now two-time All-ACC Indoor Academic Team honoree posted a season-best fourth-place finish at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
Â
Synclair Savage placed third for first-team honors with a personal-best mark of 6.22m (20-5) in the women's long jump at the ACC Indoor Championships. The mark ranked 37th in the nation and fifth in the ACC. The Red and Black Scholar honoree also clocked a personal-best 60-meter time of 7.64 at the PNC Lenny Lyles invitational.
Â
Aliyah Welter cleared a height of 4.31m (13-9.75) to finish fourth and earn second-team honors in the women's pole vault at the ACC Indoor Championships. Welter and Leon led a women's pole vault group that ranked in the top-three in all five of USTFCCCA's #Event Squad Rankings, with a top placing of second on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7. The three-time All-ACC Indoor Academic Team honoree recorded a top-five finish in six of seven meets, with a top-finish of third in three meets.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
