Smith Named Senior CLASS Award® Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The University of Louisville's Kendall Smith has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award®.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
Smith, a graduate transfer from Western Kentucky, was also named a top 30 candidate last season while playing for the Hilltoppers. The catcher from Bowling Green, Ky. is tied for the team lead with six home runs and has driven in 15 this season for the Cardinals.
The 2021 Senior CLASS Award Candidate was also successful in the classroom at Western Kentucky while earning her degree in sport management. The two-time NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and Conference USA Academic Medal recipient was also name to the C-USA Honor Roll four times, WKU President's List four times, and WKU Dean's List twice.
After earning her bachelor's degree in sport management from WKU, Smith elected to utilized an NCAA-granted extra year of eligibility and transferred to Louisville for her final season while pursuing her master's degree in sport administration.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 Women's College World Series® in June.
