March 02, 2022 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field team qualified three athletes for the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee Tuesday. The championships meet will be hosted by the UAB and the City of Birmingham Mar. 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Â
Sterling Warner-Savage, Trey Allen and Gabriela Leon earned a spot with top-16 qualifying marks in their respective events.
Â
Warner-Savage is set to compete in the men's 60-meter after breaking the school record with a top-meet time of 6.55 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invitational on Feb. 11. The time ranks sixth in the nation entering the indoor finale. The Snellville, Ga. native clocked 6.64 seconds to win his first conference title and earn his third All-ACC distinction at the ACC Indoor Championships last weekend. He returns to the NCAA Indoor Championships after placing seventh with a time of 6.67 seconds for first-team honors in 2021.
Â
Allen will be back in his hometown to take part in the men's high jump event after recording an ACC-leading height of 2.20m (7-2.5) at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 19, a personal-best mark that is tied for tenth nationally. The redshirt sophomore cleared 2.17m (7-1.5) to finish third based on attempts at the ACC Indoor Championships and has posted a team-high three event wins this season.
Â
Leon will participate in the women's pole vault after breaking the school indoor pole vault record for the second time this season with a runner-up height of 4.46m (14-7.5) at the ACC Indoor Championships. The height sits fifth nationally. The now seven-time All-ACC honoree has recorded a top-three finish in all six meets competed in this season and a top-five pole vault finish at five ACC Indoor Championships. Leon was honored as a 2020 NCAA Indoor All-American after the championship meet was canceled.
