Cardinals Defeat Xavier 5-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Xavier 5-2 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Dina Chaika and Chelsea Sawyer defeated Kat Lyman and Anne-Sophie Courteau 6-0 to get doubles play started for the Cardinals. Louisville clinched the doubles point when Sasha Gorchanyuk and Rhea Verma bested Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas 6-4.
In singles, Louisville extended its lead to 3-0 when Tatiana Simova and Chelsea Sawyer each recorded 6-3, 6-1 wins. Xavier battled back with wins on courts 2 and 4 but the Cardinals clinched the match when Andrea Di Palma rallied to defeat Kyle 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
"It was a good win for us, Xavier is a high-level team," head coach Mark Beckham said. "For us to be able to come out and beat them in the way we did shows that we're a good team as well. When we play the type of schedule that we play, sometimes it gets lost about what we're actually doing and how well we're playing but we've got a good team. It feels good to beat another quality team and now we'll see if we can try and build some momentum off of this."
The Cardinals will return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center next Friday at 4 p.m. to face No. 11 Virginia.
