
Warner-Savage, Leon, Allen Set for NCAA Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sterling Warner-Savage, Gabriela Leon, and Trey Allen are set to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, Mar. 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day national meet will be hosted by UAB and the City of Birmingham.
Warner-Savage is scheduled to compete in the men's 60-meter prelims at 5:15 p.m. ET Friday before Leon contests the women's pole vault at 7:45 p.m. ET. Allen will take part in the men's high jump at 1:30 ET Saturday, while Warner-Savage looks to advance to the men's 60-meter finals, which will take place at 5:10 p.m. ET on Saturday.
ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 11 a.m. ET Friday, March 11 and starting at 11:30 a.m. ET Saturday, March 12. A re-air of the events will take place starting at 9:30 p.m. ET Sunday, March 13 on ESPNU. Live results are provided through Flash Results.
Warner-Savage earned a top qualifying time of 6.55 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invitational on Feb. 11. The time ranks sixth in the nation and second in the ACC entering the indoor finale. The Snellville, Ga. native clocked 6.64 seconds to win his first conference title and earn his third All-ACC indoor distinction at the ACC Indoor Championships. He returns to the NCAA Indoor Championships after placing seventh with a time of 6.67 seconds for first-team honors in 2021.
Allen returns to his hometown after recording an ACC-leading height of 2.20m (7-2.5) at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 19, an indoor personal-best mark that is tied for tenth nationally. The redshirt sophomore cleared 2.17m (7-1.5) to finish third based on attempts and earn his third All-ACC indoor distinction at the ACC Indoor Championships. Despite battling injuries that sidelined him for half of the season, Allen has posted a team-high three event wins, sweeping the men's high jump in all three regular season meets he competed in to become the first Cardinal to record three indoor high jump wins in a single season since Javen Reeves in 2018. Entering the season, Allen's previous indoor personal best was 2.11m (6-11), which he has tied or surpassed in all four meets.
Leon set the indoor pole vault school record for the second time this season with a runner-up height of 4.46m (14-7.5) at the ACC Indoor Championships. The marks sits fifth nationally. The now seven-time All-ACC honoree has recorded a top-three finish in all six meets competed in this season, top-five pole vault finish at all five ACC Indoor Championships, and a top-five pole vault finish in the 29 of 30 career indoor meets. Leon was honored as a 2020 NCAA Indoor All-American after the championship meet was canceled.
Following the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Cardinals open the outdoor season at the Tiger Classic on Mar 18-19 in Auburn, Ala.
