February 12, 2022 | Women's Tennis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Saint Louis 4-3 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals swept Saint Louis in doubles, as Andrea Di Palma and Tatiana Simova defeated Mariona Perez and Jessica Stefan 6-3 at the No. 2 slot to clinch the doubles point for Louisville.
Di Palma defeated Norhan Hesham 6-1, 6-1 to give Louisville its first singles point and a 2-0 advantage. Both teams traded singles points before Tyra Richardson defeated Mya Spencer 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to clinch the match for Louisville.
"It was one of the biggest moments in all of my coaching, I don't know if I've ever had a player in the first match that they've played, come down to that," head coach Mark Beckham said. "It was a deciding match to where it came down to Tyra's (Richardson) court, and it determined whether or not we win or lose a match. Tyra being able to step up like that was amazing to see. I don't know if I've ever seen that, I've coached a long time and I don't know if I've ever seen that. I'm just super proud and super happy for her because that is not easy to do."
Up next, Louisville welcomes Austin Peay at noon and Bellarmine at 5 p.m. for a doubleheader on Saturday.
