LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Ball State 4-3 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals struck first as Tatiana Simova and Andrea Di Palma rolled past Emma Peeler and Maria Polishchuk 6-2 at the No. 2 slot. Ball State responded with a 6-3 win on court three. Rhea Verma and Sasha Gorchanyuk defeated Livia Lukacs and Jessica Braun 7-5 to secure the doubles point for the Cardinals.
Ball State took the first singles point 6-2, 6-0 on court four to tie the match at 1-1. Simova dispatched Lukacs 6-3, 6-0 to put Louisville back in front 2-1. Di Palma defeated Peeler 6-2, 6-4 and Verma outlasted Jessica Braun 7-6, 7-5 to clinch the match for Louisville.
"Anytime you pull out a 4-3 win, it's a good win. The thing I was impressed with, in terms of our team, was that Ball State pushed us and they were also confident," head coach Mark Beckham said. "They played really confident tennis, and we had to match that. I'm trying to get us as a team to have that same type of confidence, not saying that we didn't have it but we need to be more confident. That's going to help us play better tennis but a very good win for us today."
Louisville is back in action tomorrow as they face Saint Louis at 4 p.m.
