Cards move to 8-0 with the 25-16, 25-12, 25-10 win
CINCINNATI -- Claire Chaussee had 17 kills, hit .667 with six digs and a block to lead the No. 10-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-10 win over Xavier Saturday evening at the Cintas Center.

The Cardinals remain undefeated at 8-0 and used .425 hitting and out-blocked the Musketeers 8-1. Emily Scott had seven kills on 11 swings and no errors and added five blocks on her first start of the season. Aiko Jones added five kills and six blocks in the winning effort.

Xavier, 3-4, hit .045 with no aces, and one block. Delaney Hogan led her team with nine kills and a block.

UofL returns home this Wednesday for the Battle of the Bluegrass when defending national champion Kentucky visits L&N Federal Credit Union Arena Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

Set 1
The Cardinals popped out to an early five point lead at 8-3 before Xavier used its first timeout. The Musketeers used a 4-0 run to pull within two at 11-9. The Cards used .370 hitting to spread the lead to nine at 22-13 on a kill by Claire Chaussee. Â After reaching set point at 24-15 on another kill by Chaussee, the Cards closed the set out on a XU service error. Chaussee paced the Cards offense with six kills in the set as the Cards ended up hitting .380 for the first set to Xavier's .054.

UofL went out to a 14-6 lead early in the second set to force a Xavier timeout.  A 6-0 run by the Cardinals was powered by three Chaussee kills and after Jamie Vasilou uncorked two aces from the service line to put UofL up 20-9, the Musketeers called timeout. A kill by Tori Dilfer put the Cards up 23-12, she followed that up with an ace and then dished to Chaussee for the kill and set point. Louisville added three blocks and three aces in the set.

The Cardinals did not relent in the third set, running out to a 10-3 lead early. After the XU timeout UofL went on a 9-3 run at 18-6. A tip by Chaussee ended the set and match at 25-10.
