AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Louisville's Meghan Schneider has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division I At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
She becomes the fourth player in the Cardinals' field hockey program history to earn the award and the first since 2009 when Heather Bustanoby was named to the second team. Schneider is also only the second player in program history to earn first-team honors, the other being Jessica Javelet, who was a first team selection in 2005 and 2006.
Among the 92 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-America® Division I At-Large teams, 21 women and 21 men carry a 4.0 grade-point average. The 17 members of the women's at-large first team carry an average G.P.A. of 3.926, while the 15 members of the men's at-large team carry a 3.912 average G.P.A.
Schneider (San Diego, California) was the 2020-21 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also became the first player in program history to earn the Elite 90 Award for the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship, posting the highest GPA (4.0) of the participating semifinal teams and was a finalist for the 2020-21 NCAA Honda Award for Field Hockey. Additionally, she garnered NFHCA All-America honors and is a two-time NFHCA All-West Region selection. She was also named to the 2020-21 Division I Senior Team selection.
The three-year starter and team co-captain helped the Cardinals to 17 shutouts over the last four years – including a 1-0 win against No. 6 UConn in the NCAA quarterfinals to send Louisville to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.
Schneider earned her bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in Spanish and is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree and has been a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of her seasons at Louisville.
