Newest Cardinal spent two seasons at Alabama
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team has announced the addition of Sasha Gorchanyuk, who joins the program after spending the last two seasons at Alabama.
"I am excited to welcome Sasha Gorchanyuk to our Women's Tennis Team. We are fortunate to get someone of Sasha's talent," head coach Mark Beckham said. "We lost some major experience off last year's team and Sasha will play a key role in filling that void. She has experience in the SEC, which is a very similar level to the ACC, so she will be accustomed to the level of competition from day one."
Gorchanyuk competed in every match last season for the Crimson Tide. She opened doubles competition with an unblemished 6-0 mark, excelling with partner Alba Cortina Pou as the duo totaled a 9-2 record from the No. 2 line. She complied eight singles victories while splitting time between multiple positions.
Gorchanyuk excelled on and off the court, earning 2020 ITA Scholar Athlete honors as a communications major.
In her first season with the Tide, Gorchanyuk went 12-3 in dual match doubles competition upon joining the team in January after transferring from Kansas.
"She played a lot in the top three in singles and top two in doubles, so she is comfortable playing against elite college players. That experience will be invaluable in helping us continue to move forward and be a better team this season. Sasha will be a big help to us, I am thrilled that she chose to be a Cardinal!" Beckham added.
A native of Mississauga, Canada, Gorchanyuk is a two-time Canadian National Champion and took home the title at the 2018 Veneto ITF Championship.
