No. 13 Cardinals Sweep Cal Poly at Sun Devil Invite

The Cardinals face TAMU-CC tonight at 8:00 ET
 TEMPE, Ariz. -- Anna Stevenson and Anna DeBeer each had nine kills to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-21, 26-24 win over Cal Poly Friday afternoon at the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.

UofL hit .248 as a team with one ace, 51 digs and 10 total blocks. Amaya Tillman led with seven blocks and added six kills of her own. Aiko Jones had eight kills, an ace and five blocks and Claire Chaussee had seven kills. Freshman libero Elena Scott had 14 digs. Setter Tori Dilfer quarterbacked the offense with 34 assists and nine digs.

Cal Poly hit .143 as a team with three aces, 44 digs and seven blocks. CP was led by Nicole Cavote's 12 kills. Jamie Stivers notched two aces with eight kills and eight digs.

UofL is now 1-0 as it won its season opener. Cal Poly drops to 0-1.

UofL plays Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tonight at 8 p.m. ET as play in the Invitational continues.

How it went down
Set 1
The Cardinals surged late in the first set to pull off the win. UofL lost the lead at 5-4, tied at 22-21 on a kill by Aiko Jones. UofL went up two on kills by Amaya Tillman and Anna DeBeer to move the score to 23-21. Cal Poly tied at 23 on a kill by Jamie Stivers. A CP serving error gave the Cards set point and a kill by Jones gave Louisville the 25-23 nod.  UofL hit .342 as a team

 Louisville was up five at 16=11 on a kill by Claire Chaussee and then slowly pulled away for the 25-21 win. Down 22-18, CP got a kill from Nicole Cavote and benefitted from an attack error by UofL to pull within two at 23-21 but a CP service error and a kill by Tillman sent the set to the Cardinals' win column.

The Cardinals used a 4-1 run to pull even at 13 but CP closed ranks and got to set point at 24-21 on a kill by Meredith Phillips. UofL scored on a CP service error, a kill by Anna Stevenson, and two CP hitting errors. Stevenson put down the final point from the middle for the 26-24 win.
