June 09, 2021 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Louisville's Albert Kosgei finished 18th in the semifinals of the 3000m Steeplechase Wednesday evening on the opening day of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Heyward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The senior from Iten, Kenya finished seventh in his heat with a time of 8:43.04, his third best showing of the season. The 2021 ACC Bronze medalist closes his career with two NCAA championship appearances, earning second team all-American honors in 2019. He was also the ACC runner-up in the event in 2019.
"The steeplechase is a rhythm event and Albert was a little out of sequence tonight," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "He has been a big part of our program during his time on campus and leaves big shoes to fill."
The Cardinals will return to action on Thursday when Aliyah Welter competes in the pole vault finals at 7 p.m. ET. The event will be aired on ESPN3. https://uofl.me/3wmIwSg
