EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Louisville's Aliyah Welter finished tied for 16th in the pole vault finals on day two of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Heyward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
"Aliyah Welter capped off a great year today in the women's pole vault," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. 'She has been one of the most consistent students in our program and always represents UofL at the highest level. She has earned a much-deserved break after earning all-American honors indoors and outdoors during 2021."
The sophomore from Monticello, Illinois sailed over the initial height of 4.05m (13-3.5) on her second attempt, but was unable to clear the next progression of 4.20m (13-9.25).
Welter completes an impressive 2021 campaign in which she matched her personal best vault of 4.17m (13-8.25) to finish tied for eighth in the NCAA East Preliminary round. She also qualified for the 2021 Indoor Championships where she placed 13th and earned All-America second team honors. Welter was an all-ACC performer in the indoor season after taking the silver medal and finished fourth in the ACC outdoor championships to earn second team all-conference honors.
The Cardinals will wrap up NCAA Championship action on Friday when Trey Allen competes in the high jump at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN3 Watch Link) and Adar Sheere takes part in the discus throw at 7:35 p.m. (ESPN3 Watch Link).
