GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Louisville's Carmyn Greenwood and Celene Funke have earned All-ACC Academic Softball Team honors as announced by the league office today.
Â
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
This marks the third All-ACC Academic Team nod for Funke, who recently completed her postgraduate career with a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning her MBA with distinction. She earned her bachelor's degree in finance in 2019. Funke garnered the Woodrow M. Strickler Leadership Award for Finance and was named Outstanding Senior in Finance. She is the University of Louisville's first three-time Google Cloud Softball Academic All-American, earning first team honors in 2019 and 2020 and third team honors in 2018. Additionally, she is a four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member and three-time and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athlete. She served as the president of Louisville's the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2021.
Â
This year, she elected to utilize an extra season of eligibility following the shortened 2020 season due to the spread of COVID-19. The four-year starter from Carmel, Ind. was named to the 2021 ACC All-Tournament team and finished her career ranked second on Louisville's list for career triples (22) and stolen bases (74). Her 121 career runs scored place her 10th on UofL's all-time list. She also owns the school single season record for triples with 13 in the 2019 campaign and stands second in stolen bases after swiping 29 that same year.
Â
Greenwood, a redshirt senior from Birmingham, Ala., picks up her first All-ACC Academic Team honor after transferring to Louisville from Auburn prior to the 2020 season. She earned her degree in marketing in May 2021. While at UofL, she was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Dean's List.
Â
The Cardinals' starting left fielder was a 2021 NFCA All-Southeast Region selection after leading the Cardinals with a .430 batting average, 74 hits, nine doubles and 31 runs – all career bests. She also paced the team with 23 multi-hit games and stood second with 29 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. The all-ACC second team selection led the conference in hits and stood second in batting average.
