June 15, 2021 | Field Hockey, Academic Services
The University of Louisville's Meghan Schneider was named the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) National Scholar-Athlete of the year as announced by the organization Tuesday evening.
The NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete honor is presented annually to the Division I All-American who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the current academic year.
Schneider is the NFHCA's seventh Division I National Scholar-Athlete and the first student-athlete from Louisville to receive the award.
Schneider (San Diego, Calif.) earned the Elite 90 Award for the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship, posting the highest GPA (4.0) of the participating semifinal teams and was a finalist for the 2020 NCAA Honda Award for Field Hockey. Additionally, she earned NFHCA All-America honors and is a two-time NFHCA All-West Region selection. She was also named to the 2020-21 Division I Senior Team selection.
The three-year starter and team co-captain helped the Cardinals to 17 shutouts over the last four years – including a 1-0 win against No. 6 UConn in the NCAA quarterfinals to send Louisville to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.
Schneider earned her bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in Spanish and is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree and has been a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of her seasons at Louisville.
