
Murphy Set for First Walker Cup Appearance

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior men's golfer John Murphy will have the honor of  playing in his Walker Cup this weekend as he represents the Great Britain and Ireland against the United States on May 8-9 at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
The Walker Cup consists of some of the world's top amateur golfers and is a match-play style event that occurs every two years. Murphy and the Great Britain and Ireland squad were selected by the R&A.
"I'm really excited for John," head coach Ryan Blagg said. "To receive an invitation to the Walker Cup, is one of the highest honors a player can receive in collegiate golf. He's had a solid year and I'm looking forward to watching him compete in this prestigious event."
On Saturday, May 8, there will be four foursomes (alternate-shot) matches in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. On Sunday, May 9, there will be four foursomes matches in the morning and 10 singles matches in the afternoon. All matches will be 18 holes.
NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock, as well as the GOLF Channel, will collaborate on televising every part of this weekend's event.
Playing In his first Walker Cup, Murphy brings excellent credentials to the table. The senior from Kinsale, Ireland is  is second on the team with a 73.00 stroke average and owns a pair of top-5 finishes this season, including a second at the General Hackler. Murphy owns two career victories and sits third all-time with a 72.21 career average.
