May 28, 2021 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Louisville track and field program punched three more tickets to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships with qualifying performances from Trey Allen, Adar Sheere and Albert Kosgei on day three of the NCAA East Preliminary Round at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Allen got the Cardinals' Friday qualifications started in the high jump when he cleared a personal-best height of 2.19m (7-2.25) on his second attempt to tie for sixth in the event. With the feat, the freshman from Birmingham, Ala., advanced to his first NCAA championship. The mark surpassed his previous best of 2.17m (7-1.5) and stands 10th on Louisville's all-time list.
Adar placed eighth in the discus throw with a season-best mark of 57.63m (189-1). The sophomore from Givatayim, Israel beat his previous season best of 57.29 (187-11) and stands seventh on the Cardinals' list to top performances in the event. This will mark the second NCAA Outdoor Championship appearance for Sheere, who also advanced in 2019 while competing for Memphis.
Kosgei (Iten, Kenya) earned an automatic bid to the championship after pacing his quarterfinal heat with a time of 8:42.43. The 2021 ACC bronze medalist finished sixth overall in the NCAA Preliminary Round to claim his second career NCAA Outdoor Championship appearance.
The Cardinals will wrap up NCAA East Prelim action tomorrow when Renate van Tonder competes in the high jump at 1 p.m.
