Welter Qualifies for NCAA Championship on Day Two NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Louisville's Aliyah Welter qualified for the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a personal-best mark in the pole vault at 2021 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries Thursday at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
The sophomore from Monticello, Ill., cleared heights of 3.92m (12-10.25) and 4.07m (13-4.25) before matching her personal best vault of 4.17m (13-8.25) to finish tied for eighth. The mark stands tied for ninth on Louisville's all-time list. Teammates Auriane Viola and Gabriela Leon finished 22nd and 24th respectively with clearances of 4.07m (13-4.25).
In the long jump, Renate van Tonder's leap of 6.04m (19-9.75) was good for a 27th place showing.
The men return to action tomorrow starting with Trey Allen in high jump at 1 p.m. followed by the discus throw which features Ethan Alyea, Jorge Contreras, Bryan Hudson and Adar Sheere at 1:30 p.m. Albert Kosgei will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at 6:10 and Sterling Warner-Savage will wrap up the day in the 100m quarterfinals at 7:05 p.m.
