Warner-Savage Sets School Record to Qualify for Friday's 100m Quarterfinal

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Sterling Warner-Savage ran a school record time of 10.26 in the first round of the 100m dash to qualify for Friday's quarterfinals on day one of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries Wednesday evening at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Warner-Savage finished fourth in his heat to place 20th overall in the first round, advancing to Friday's quarterfinals which are slated for a 7:05 p.m. start. The time surpassed his previous personal-best of 10.41 which stands third on Louisville's all-time list.
Jeremiah Willis registered a jump of 7.52m (24-8.25) on his third attempt after improving from marks of 6.96m and 7.24m on his first two tries. The freshman tied with two other athletes, but ultimately finished 14th in the long jump, just outside of the top-12 qualifiers for the NCAA championship.
In the shot put, Cade Richeson's heave of 7.92m (58-9.5) was good for 22nd place while Christian Buckley finished 37th with a mark of 17.06m (55-11.75).
The Louisville women will begin competition on Thursday starting at 1:30 p.m. with the hammer throw. The long jump and pole vault will follow at 3 p.m. with the shot put (6 p.m.), 100m dash first round (7 p.m.) and 10,000m (9:10 p.m.) rounding out the day.
