
Twenty-Four Athletes Qualify for NCAA East Preliminaries

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Twenty-four University of Louisville track and field student-athletes make up 25 total entries for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced on Thursday.Â

The preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 26-29 with the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida serving as the host for the East Preliminary. The qualifiers out of the East and West regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.

The women's squad will send 12 athletes to compete in seven events. ACC pole vault champion Gabriela Leon will lead a trio of Cardinals including all-ACC second team performer Aliyah Welter and Auriane Viola in the pole vault. All-ACC second team performer Renate van Tonder will join teammate Alexis Gibbons in the long jump. Van Tonder will also compete in the high jump. The hammer throw will feature 2019 second team All-American Makenli Forrest along with Halee Hudson – both were 2021 ACC second team performers. Rashida Harris will represent the Cardinals in the shot put.

Purity Sanga, the ACC Outdoor Championship 10000m silver medalist will join Bailey Beery and Ivine Chemutai in the event while Brooke Raglin will compete in the 100m dash.

On the men's side, 12 Cardinals will also compete in seven events. The 3000m steeplechase will feature 2021 ACC bronze medalist and 2019 All-American Albert Kosgei. Indoor All-American Sterling Warner-Savage will represent the Cardinals in the 100m dash.

Four UofL student athletes will compete in the discus throw including all-ACC second team performer Adar Sheere as well as Bryan Hudson, Ethan Alyea and Jorge Contreras. The high jump will feature all-conference second team performer Trey Allen Luke Nichols. Sean Roth, who earned second-team All-ACC honors will compete in the pole vault. All-ACC second team honoree Christian Buckley and Cade Richeson will represent Louisville in the shot put. Jeremiah Willis will compete in the long jump.
