Louisville finishes regular season on upswing
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team secured the doubles point and never looked back, taking five out of the six singles courts in straight sets for a 6-1 win over Butler on Friday afternoon. Â
Â
"I was happy with how we performed today. It always tough to be at your best with the emotions of Senior Day, but our girls came out and battled. I cannot express how appreciative I am for everything our two seniors have done for this program. It was a great win as a team, and I hope it provides us with some momentum as we head into next week." Â
Â
In doubles action, Louisville secured the point by taking the top two courts. Cardinals' No 64 ranked Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma handled Natalie Boesing and Lauren Marx 6-2 at No.1 before Raven Neely and Chelsea Sawyer paired up to defeat Butler's Delaney Schurhamer and Sara Linn 6-2 at No. 2. Â
Â
With the lead heading into singles, Cardinals' No. 100 ranked Andrea Di Palma was quick to widen the margin as she took down Lauryn Padgett 6-1, 6-1 at No.2 before Rhea Verma secured her 13th singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sara Linn at No. 4. Raven Neely overpowered her opponent 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 to secure the match win on her Senior Day. Play continued with Jelena Vujanic and Dina Chaika picking up straight set wins at No. 5 and No.6, respectively. Nikolina Jovic battled through injury to take the initial set at No.1, but dropped the second set and the third set ten-point tie breaker. Â
Â
The Cardinals finish the regular season 8-12, 3-10 ACC, and will now prepare for next week's ACC Championships, which will take place from Apr. 21- 25 in Rome, Ga. Â
