Cards Set for Louisville Track and Field Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville will host the 2021 Louisville Track and Field Invitational this weekend. The meet, which will take place Friday and Saturday at Cardinal Park, will also feature Ball State, Central Michigan, DePaul and Notre Dame.

"We are thankful for the opportunity to host a small competition this weekend," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "The majority of our team will be competing, and it will be a good opportunity for our staff to evaluate our early season capabilities. Â A great deal of time, energy, and effort goes into planning every event during 20-21 and I'd like to thank the facilities and grounds staff for doing a great job of setting things up for us this weekend."

Attendance: Seating in the stands inside of Cardinal Park is limited to participating team pass lists.
Spectators may also watch the meet from the greenspace surrounding the confines of Cardinal Park. The following of CDC guidelines including social distancing and masking is required for any fan who chooses to view the meet from these areas.

Last Up for Louisville
The Cardinals have been idle since opening the 2021 outdoor season at Auburn's Tiger Track Classic March 19-20.

On the women's side, the Cardinals placed first and second in the long jump with junior Renate van Tonder won the long jump with a leap of 6.25m (20-6.25) while teammate Alexis Gibbons placed second at 6.20m (20-4.25). Â

Bailey Beery notched a third-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:51.46.

Several athletes also achieved personal bests with Emma Bryant running a time of 4:31.46 to finish fifth in the 1500m and Katherine Coffey recording a career-best mark of 51.59m (169-3) in the hammer throw. Emma Bryan tallied two personal-bests, finishing fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.47 and clocking in at 2:11.82 for a sixth place showing in the 800m.

For the men, Jeremiah Willis placed second in the long jump with a leap of 7.18m (23-6.75) and Trey Allen finished third in the high jump, clearing 2.10m (6-10.75).

Daniel Fielder turned in a personal-best throw of 14.59m (7-10.5) in the shot put. In the discus throw, freshman Ethan Alyea posted a mark of 51.73m (169-9) to finish fourth in his collegiate debut.

Following this weekend's home meet, the Cardinals will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Tennessee Relays which will be held April 8-10.
