BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The University of Louisville field hockey team was tied for fifth on the 2020 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award list as announced by the organization today. This marks the tenth straight year the Cardinals have earned the national team academic honor.
Â
The NFHCA National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2020-2021 school year.
Â
Virginia Commonwealth University earned the highest team GPA for the second-consecutive year with a mark of 3.84. Stanford University was second with a team-average 3.83.
Â
Two ties made the traditional "Top Five" a top seven this year — the University of Maine and Yale University both posted a 3.81 for a third-place ranking while Dartmouth College, Rutgers University, and the University of Louisville were locked in a three-way tie for the fifth-spot with a 3.80 mark.
Â
Louisville posted program-best a 3.809 team GPA in the fall semester. The Cardinals led all 79 NCAA Division I schools with 12 NFHCA Scholars of Distinction and 25 student-athletes named to the NFHCA Academic Squad.
Â
Second-ranked Louisville (11-4, 1-2 ACC) produced an 8-2 record in the fall season and earned the No. 1 seed in the 2020 ACC Fall Championship, posting a runner-up finish to top-ranked North Carolina. The Cardinals are 3-2 in the spring season and will take on No. 9 Syracuse this weekend at Trager Stadium.
