No. 16 Boston College Edges Louisville 1-0

Newton, Mass. – The University of Louisville field hockey suffered its second loss of the spring season Saturday afternoon after a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter lifted No. 16 Boston College to a 1-0 win in an ACC matchup at the BC Field Hockey Complex.

UofL (11-4, 1-2 ACC) will return to action Sunday, April 4 when the Cards take on Syracuse at Trager Stadium.

"We are disappointed with the result, however I am so proud of the team today and the improvements on both sides of the ball," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "This was easily our best game this year and we will keep getting better if we commit to the process and work together as a team. Some decisions didn't go our way, but we had our opportunities and we must capitalize."

The teams played through played through a scoreless first half with the Eagles holding a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The contest remained scoreless after the third quarter with each team registering three shots and earning one corner.

Boston College (5-4, 1-1 ACC) struck when Sky Caren converted on a penalty stroke with under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals earned two penalty corners with under two minutes left in the game, but the Eagles defense held strong.

In the game, the Cards outshot the Eagles 14-13 and held a 6-3 advantage in corners. Sam Minrath collected six saves while Emily Gillespie had five stops.
