Cardinals Face Four Top 15 Teams at the John Hayt Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team looks to continue its strong spring season as it travels to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. for the 2021 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational, which begins on Sunday.
The Cardinals have posted three top-five finishes this spring, including a third-place ending at the General Hackler Invitational last weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Louisville owns two fourth-place finishes during this spring season at the Southwestern and the Mobile Bay Invitational.
The competitive field features five teams ranked in the top 25, including three Atlantic Coast Conference schools that are ranked in the top 15 country in No. 1 Florida State, No. 3 Wake Forest and No. 14 Clemson. Other teams in the field include: No. 15 Liberty, No. 23 USF, No. 41 UAB, North Florida, Augusta, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, UCF, USC Upstate.
In total, seven of the 14 teams come into the event ranked in the top 50 in the latest Golfstat rankings, including Louisville.
The Cardinals will travel six players to the Hayt as Hugh O'Hare will play as an individual. This will be his second event of the spring after placing in the top 30 at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational to open the season.
Senior John Murphy is coming off his best outing of the spring, firing a final round 69 to finish in second place at General Hackler Championship last Monday.
Despite losing out on the title last week, Murphy was brilliant during the three-day event to register his best finish since winning the Bearcat Invitational last season. He stayed in contention on Tuesday by birding three of the last nine holes.
The Kinsale, Ireland, native recorded his sixth top-five finish of his career and the second in the top 10 this spring. Murphy shot 66-72-69=207, his best total since firing a 206 at the Old Town Club Intercollegiate last season.
Junior Jiri Zuska is coming off one of his best performances of the spring. He posted his eighth career top-10 finish and fourth in the top 20 this spring by placing in a tie for eighth place after shooting a 1-under par for the tournament. He shot under par in two of the three rounds to post his best finish this spring. The junior shot a 68-77-70=215 to tie his total from last week's Trinity Forest Invitational.
Seniors Matthias Schmid, Trevor Johnson and Devin Morley round out the lineup for the Cardinals this weekend.
The 54 hole-tournament begins with 36 holes on the first day with an 8 a.m. modified shotgun start. The final round of 18 holes will begin Monday morning at 8 a.m.
