GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Louisville's Makenli Forrest has been named the ACC Women's Indoor Field Performer of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches as announced by the ACC today.
Â
Forrest, a senior from Ellenwood, Ga., earns the honor after an impressive indoor season which culminated in winning the 2021 NCAA Indoor Weight Throw title with a collegiate-best mark of 23.26m (76-3.75). In the national championship, she set a school record on her third throw and followed with a new one with her final attempt.
Â
The three-time NCAA Indoor All-American (2019, 2020, 2021) and four-time all-ACC performer surpassed her previous personal-best mark which was set when she posted a runner-up finish in the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championship. She owns four of Louisville's top 10 marks in the all-time record.
Â
Forrest, the 2021 ACC Indoor Track and Field Weight Throw champion, tallied six wins in the event throughout the season, extending her career total to 14.
Â
"This is a terrific honor for Makenli to be named ACC Field Event Performer of the Year," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "She was able to maintain a specific focus on her goal of winning both the ACC and NCAA event titles during a challenging winter. We'll enjoy this final indoor season award as we shift our focus to preparing for the outdoor championship season that gets started in mid-May."
