
Louisville Guard Carlik Jones Named USBWA All-District

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- University of Louisville guard Carlik Jones has been selected to the 2020-21 U.S. Basketball Writers Association  All-District IV Team, based on voting from its national membership of over 900 people. The USBWA has selected All-District teams since the 1956-57 season, its founding year..
USBWA District IV includes schools in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Â Jones was honored on the 10-person USBWA All-District IV team with Charles Bassey, Western Kentucky; Herbert Jones, Alabama; Trey Mann, Florida; John Petty, Alabama; Scotty Pippen Jr., Vanderbilt; Devontae Shuler, Ole Miss; Terry Taylor, Austin Peay; M.J. Walker, Florida State; and Moses Wright, Georgia Tech.
A first team All-ACC selection, Jones is the only player in the ACC to rank among the top six in scoring (16.8 ppg, 6th in the ACC), assists (4.5 apg, 4th), assists/turnovers ratio (2.18, 4th) and free throw percentage (.815, 3rd). Â He leads the ACC and ranks ninth in the nation in minutes played (37.5 minutes per game). He is also among the ACC leaders in steals (1.4, 12th), field goal percentage (.402, 15th) and rebounding (4.9, 36th).
Jones scored his 1,800th career point at North Carolina on Feb. 20 when he led the Cardinals with 13 points and a season-high four steals. Combined with his time at Louisville and Radford, Jones has 101 career double-figure scoring efforts, including 41 of his last 42 Â games (18 of 19 at UofL). He is the first person in UofL history to reach double figures in his first 17 games at Louisville.
The 6-1, 185-pound Cincinnati, Ohio product  is 14th in the nation in career assists among active players with 554 (85 at Louisville, 469 at Radford) and is 17th nationally among active career scorers with 1,871 points (319 at UofL, 1,552 at Radford).
Jones is only the third Cardinal to earn first team all-conference honors in Louisville's seven years in the ACC, joining Jordan Nwora (2020) and Donovan Mitchell (2017). Â Jones received the third-highest votes and finished tied for second in the conference player of the year vote.
The USBWA will release its 2020-21 Men's All-America team tomorrow. From the 15 All-Americans, finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy (National Player of the Year) will be announced. In addition, finalists for the Wayman Tisdale Award (National Freshman Player of the Year) and the Henry Iba Award (National Coach of the Year) will be unveiled tomorrow. The Henry Iba Award will be announced on Friday, followed by the Wayman Tisdale Award next Tues., March 23. Finally, the 2021 Oscar Robertson Trophy will be announced in Indianapolis at the Final Four on Fri., April 2.
