
Cardinals Add Francoeur as a Graduate Transfer

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- University of Louisville head men's golf coach Ryan Blagg announced the signing of graduate transfer Chris Francoeur, who will graduate from the University of Rhode Island in May.
"Chris is an incredible athlete and has a lot of collegiate tournament experience," Blagg said. "His competitiveness will be a huge asset for us."
Francoeur, a native of Amesbury, Mass., played in 24 tournaments during his time at Rhode Island, finishing his career with a 73.0 stroke average, which was highlighted by a 69.4 average during the shortened 2019-20 season.
During his tenure with the Rams, Francoeur posted a pair of wins, seven top-5 finishes and 11 in the top 15 during his three-year career.
Last season, Francoeur was honored as the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week four times and was named the New England Golfer of the Year and a PING all-Region honoree.
In his sophomore season, Francoeur earned all-New England for the second time, while playing in each of URI's 10 tournaments He turned in an impressive 73.7 stroke average that season, won an individual title and posted three top-5 finishes. He took home his first medalist honor by winning the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate, finishing with an even-par 216 (74-70-74).
During his rookie season, Francoeur was named New England Rookie of the Year after turning in a 74.3 stroke average and finishing the campaign with six-top=25 finishes, including a season-best fourth place ending at the Rhode Island Invitational.
Scholastically, Francoeur graduated from St. John's Prep where he served as a captain on the baseball and golf teams as a senior. He was a five-time Catholic Conference award winner, taking home four honors in golf and one in baseball. The 5-foot-10 senior helped lead his golf team to four Catholic Conference titles and two Division I State championships.
He was named the Boston Globe's 2017 Division 1 Golfer of the Year in addition to earning the 2017 St. John's Prep Athlete of the Year award.
He finished his high school golfing career with the third-lowest career 9-hole scoring average (35.58) in St. John's Prep history.
Francoeur will join the program to begin the fall season and pursue a graduate degree at Louisville.
