Makenli Forrest Wins the Weight Throw to Lead Louisville on Day One of the ACC Indoor Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Makenli Forrest won the weight throw to lead the University of Louisville women's track and field team as the Cardinals stand in first place on the opening day of the ACC Indoor Championships. The men stand in fifth place with 16.5 points.
The meet will continue Friday at 9:30 a.m. with the final two events of the men's heptathlon. Friday's start list can be viewed here. Live results can be viewed here.
ACC Network Extra will return to provide coverage at the Friday and Saturday sessions. Play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney will be joined by veteran analyst Larry Rawson from 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. on Friday and from noon until the meet's conclusion (approximately 4:30 p.m.) on Saturday. In Thursday's action on the women's side, the Cardinals tallied 33 points through four scored events to lead the field. Duke stands second with 20 points and Miami is third with 80.
Forrest picked Louisville's first win of the championship with her season-best heave of 22.46m (73-8.25) in the weight throw. The win marks Forrest's fifth of the season and second ACC Indoor Weight Throw title after winning the event in 2018.
Also in the weight throw, senior Halee Hudson placed fourth, earning All-ACC second team honors with a toss of 20.92m (68-7.75). Sophomore Katherine Coffey registered a personal-best mark of 17.58m (57-8.25).
The Cardinals placed three among the top five in the pole vault with junior Aliyah Welter's personal-best mark of 4.32m (14-2) earning her a second place finish and first team All-ACC honors. Senior Gabriela Leon and sophomore Auriane Viola finished fourth and fifth respectively with marks of 4.22m (13-10) – a career-best for Viola. Both earned All-ACC second team honors.
Junior Emma Bryant established a new personal best with a time of 2:08.56 to finish ninth in the 800m prelims.
On the men's side, the Cardinals tallied 16.5 points with 5 of 17 events completed. Virginia Tech is currently leading with a score of 42 and Notre Dame follows with 28 points. North Carolina (22) and Pittsburgh (19) stand third and fourth respectively.
Oberhausen is atop the heptathlon leaderboard with a score of 3138 with four events completed. Oberhausen led the way in the heptathlon shot put with a throw of 14.19m (46-6.75). The junior placed second in the long jump with a leap of 7.15m (23-5.5)
Junior Aaron Johnson is in fourth with a score of 2987. Johnson clocked a personal-best time of 6.97 in the heptathlon 60m, finishing second.
In the heptathlon men's high jump, a trio of Cardinals placed within the top five. Justin Lehmukuhler jumped for a height of 1.99m (06-06.25). Johnson finished third with a leap of 1.96m (06-05). Oberhausen cleared the height of 1.87m (06-01.25).
Senior Sean Roth placed third in the pole vault, clearing 5.02m (16-5.5) and earning first team All-ACC honors along the way.
Two Cardinals landed among the top five in the high jump, earning All-ACC second team honors. Trey Allen finished fourth and Jonah Hyde placed fifth with leaps of 2.10 (6-10.75), a personal-best for Hyde.
